What Students Work On
From First Notes to Famous Solos
Every student is different, so I adjust the approach to fit the person — not the other way around. Depending on where you are, lessons might cover tone production, breathing, and embouchure fundamentals. Reading music and music theory. Jazz improvisation, ear training, and building vocabulary. Learning famous trumpet solos and songs — from Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis to the trumpet parts you hear in Motown, soul, and pop. Audition prep, band music, or whatever you are working on at school. Practice strategies that fit real life and busy schedules.

About Your Teacher
A Little About Me
I have been playing trumpet and flugelhorn for over 40 years. I lead Matt Hill & The Classics, a jazz band based in the Pittsburgh and Ohio Valley region that performs at weddings, corporate events, festivals, and community shows year-round. I studied music education at Shepherd College and West Liberty State College. I have performed at the White House, played with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame groups, and founded the Dream Big After School Music Program, where I teach kids throughout the Ohio Valley. I have been teaching on Lessonface for 6 years with a 5.0 rating.
